Hotel Beaulac
on the Harbor |
Hotel Beaulac is ideally
placed beside Neuchâtel's harbor and marina. The Museum
of Art and History (Musée d'Art et d'Histoire)
is a two minutes walk and the historic town center only ten minutes
away. |
| The
best part about Hotel Beaulac is by far the view and the
location. The decor of the rooms themselves, however, is in a common
late 20th century hotel style, which means when you wake up in the
morning, and are still a bit groggy, you don't know if you are in
a hotel in Los Angeles, Vancouver or near Amsterdam's airport. But,
if you look out your window and the day is clear the thought dawns
on you that you must be in Switzerland because across
the lake the Alps scrape the horizon like dragon's teeth. |

The
hotel has over seventy rooms and suites, including three rooms for
disabled guests, conference rooms, two restaurants, three terraces
with lake views and a panoramic terrace, gift shop, bakery, hairdresser,
sauna, fitness room, solarium, telephone and fax with a direct line,
satellite link up and video system ASIS. If you bring your rod and
reel you can fish along the shore. Two fishing shops downtown provide
bait and fishing paraphernalia. |
A pleasant little corner
is the bar where you can sit and have a drink with friends or sit
with a book and sip a cappuccino. (The cappuccino though is not nearly
as good as what you can find at the Cafe
Floridita downtown.) Or you can simply sit and watch the
sailboats bobbing in the marina just outside the window.
Single rooms are around CHF200 a night, and the prices go up from there.
The Presidential Suite will deplete your resources by over CHF500. An extra
bed placed in a room costs you extra. Hotel prices change frequently so
make sure you confirm costs.
Most rooms have a lake view. For the best room with a view ask for a room with a balcony that looks out over the lake and the port. At the very least ask for a lake view.
