If you wish to get away from it all, limit your contact with people, traffic, and the hustle and bustle of everyday life Hotel la Clef des Champs may be what you are looking for. Located in the Jura mountains about forty minutes from Neuchâtel and ten minutes from the La Vue des Alpes the hotel sits by itself with only the Restaurant la Tete de Ran to give it company.

This is not a fancy expensive hotel, but rather a reasonable basic hotel providing a base for activities in the area including downhill skiing, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, hiking and mountain biking depending upon the weather. Since the Jura mountains are lower in elevation than the alps call first to verify snow conditions if you wish to ski.

Activities are easy to moderate in difficulty depending upon your skill and experience. If you wish for greater challenges the Alps are about a two hour drive away. Excursions can be arranged by the hotel.

If you wish to hang out and read or talk to friends, family and fellow guests the hotel and restaurant gives you a great view of the valley named Val de Rue and Lake Neuchâtel beyond.

Rooms are comfortable and pleasing to the eye. If you like open beams ask for a room at the top floor where you will get the beams, slanted roof and sky-lights.

Room for one person is less than CHF100, two person a bit over CHF100, room for a family of four persons around CHF300. Discounts include groups of twelve or more, and for children twelve years old and under. Ask if the room has a bathroom attached or if it is down the hall. Prices include breakfast.

The restaurant next door provides moderate-priced foods, and a terrace with a view.

To get here by car from Neuchâtel take the freeway heading for La Chaux-de-Fonds. Drive through the Seyon gorge. Continue five minutes on the freeway until you pass through the tunnel. Take the next exit which says La Vue-des-Alpes. At the end of the off ramp make a left. Drive up the hill through the farmland and forest for the next 10 minutes or so until you get to the top of the mountain. There at the pass you will see the white two story Hotel La Vue des Alpes on the right. Continue on the highway for two minutes or so. You will see a small sign for the hotel on the left. Make a left down that road. As you are driving you will see a farm house restaurant on your right. Continue on until you get to the hotel. From La Vue des Alpes to the hotel takes about ten minutes.
